What is timolol maleate + travoprost used for?
Licensed in adults to lower intraocular pressure when a topical beta blocker or prostaglandin analogue alone has not worked sufficiently.

How does timolol maleate + travoprost work?
Travoprost increases drainage of aqueous fluid from the eye. Timolol blocks beta receptors and mainly reduces production of this fluid. Together, these actions lower pressure inside the eye.

Strengths: 40 micrograms/mL + 5 mg/mL
How to take timolol maleate + travoprost
Use only in the eye and follow the prescriber's instructions. Temporary blurred vision can occur immediately afterwards.
Wash and dry your hands before use.
Do not let the bottle tip touch the eye, eyelids, skin or other surfaces.
After applying the drop, close the eye and gently press the corner beside the nose to reduce absorption into the bloodstream.
Remove soft contact lenses first and wait at least 15 minutes before replacing them.
Close the bottle firmly after use and record its opening date.

Common or expected effects
- Eye redness
- Eye pain, burning, stinging or discomfort
- Dry or itchy eyes
- Blurred or otherwise altered vision
- Inflammation or surface damage of the cornea

- Severe allergic reaction, including swelling or difficulty breathing
- Bronchospasm, wheezing or significant breathlessness
- Chest pain, fainting, heart failure symptoms, or a slow or irregular heartbeat
- Sudden weakness, speech difficulty or other possible stroke symptoms
- Persistent eye pain, reduced vision or marked eye inflammation
timolol maleate + travoprost in pregnancy
This combination should not be used during pregnancy unless a specialist or prescriber considers it clearly necessary. People who could become pregnant should discuss contraception and pregnancy plans with their prescriber and promptly wash off accidental skin contact.
timolol maleate + travoprost while breastfeeding
Use while breastfeeding is not recommended. Timolol alone is expected to reach milk only in small amounts after eye use, but transfer of travoprost is uncertain. Treatment should be reviewed by the prescriber or eye specialist.

Although applied to the eye, timolol can enter the bloodstream and interact with other treatments.
Oral or ophthalmic beta blockers
May increase beta blockade, causing excessive slowing of the heart, low blood pressure or other systemic effects.

Combined effects may cause marked bradycardia, low blood pressure or impaired cardiac conduction.
Insulin and other diabetes medicines
Timolol may enhance glucose-lowering effects and mask warning signs of hypoglycaemia.

Yes. Travoprost may gradually increase brown pigmentation in the iris, and the change can be permanent, particularly when only one eye is treated.
