How does lidocaine hydrochloride + phenylephrine hydrochloride work?
Lidocaine blocks sodium channels in nearby nerves, temporarily preventing pain signals. Phenylephrine stimulates mainly alpha-1 receptors, narrowing local blood vessels and helping reduce swelling and bleeding.
How to take lidocaine hydrochloride + phenylephrine hydrochloride
A doctor or nurse applies the solution inside the nose or throat using its pump spray. Throat or mouth numbness can affect swallowing and increase accidental biting, so follow the clinical team's instructions about eating and drinking afterwards.
It is for nasal or throat tissue, not for swallowing or self-injection.
Each container is for one patient and one procedure session; any remaining solution is discarded.

- Headache
- Temporary tongue, mouth or throat numbness that may affect swallowing or increase accidental biting

- Breathing difficulty, severe swelling or another suspected allergic reaction
- Seizure, profound drowsiness, confusion, respiratory depression or loss of consciousness
- Severe hypertension, chest pain, fainting, marked palpitations or an abnormal heartbeat
- Inability to pass urine

Irreversible monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Current or recent use is contraindicated because phenylephrine may cause a dangerous hypertensive reaction.
Other sympathomimetics
Concurrent use by oral, nasal, eye or other routes can cause additive cardiovascular effects and is contraindicated for the selected product.
Beta blockers and other antihypertensives
Phenylephrine may oppose blood-pressure treatment or cause severe cardiovascular reactions; propranolol may also increase lidocaine toxicity.
