What is inclisiran sodium used for?
Licensed in adults as an addition to a cholesterol-lowering diet.
Primary hypercholesterolaemia, including heterozygous familial and non-familial disease.
Mixed dyslipidaemia.
With a statin, with or without other lipid-lowering treatments, when the maximum tolerated statin does not achieve the LDL-cholesterol goal.
Alone or with other lipid-lowering treatments when statins are not tolerated or are contraindicated.
How does inclisiran sodium work?
It acts in liver cells to break down messenger RNA for PCSK9. This allows more LDL receptors to be recycled to the liver-cell surface, increasing removal of LDL cholesterol from the blood.

inclisiran sodium in pregnancy
Human pregnancy information is absent or limited. Product information advises avoiding inclisiran during pregnancy as a precaution; tell the prescriber if pregnant, planning pregnancy or pregnancy is suspected.
inclisiran sodium while breastfeeding
It is unknown whether inclisiran enters human milk, and risk to a breastfed child cannot be excluded. A prescriber should weigh the benefits of breastfeeding against the benefits of treatment before deciding whether breastfeeding or inclisiran should be paused.
inclisiran sodium interactions
Clinically significant medicine interactions are not expected, but the healthcare team should review all prescribed, over-the-counter and complementary products.
Statins, including atorvastatin and rosuvastatin
Limited available data do not suggest a clinically meaningful interaction, and inclisiran may be used alongside statin treatment.
Medicines metabolised through cytochrome P450 enzymes
Interactions are not expected because inclisiran does not inhibit or induce these enzymes.
