Answer
In piperacillin + tazobactam, piperacillin kills bacteria by inhibiting septum and cell-wall synthesis, while tazobactam inhibits many beta-lactamases, extending piperacillin’s activity to many resistant beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, but does not inhibit AmpC enzymes or metallo beta-lactamases.
