How does eladocagene exuparvovec work?
AADC deficiency results from changes in the DDC gene. Eladocagene exuparvovec uses a non-replicating AAV2 vector to carry a functioning DDC gene into cells in the putamen, enabling AADC expression and dopamine production.
How to take eladocagene exuparvovec
This treatment is not taken at home. A specialist neurosurgical team administers it directly into the putamen under general anaesthesia. Brain imaging and postoperative observation follow. For 14 days, caregivers should wear gloves when handling dressings or waste contaminated with tears, blood, nasal secretions or cerebrospinal fluid, and seal waste before disposal.
Follow the specialist centre's instructions before anaesthesia and surgery.
Keep the patient alert card available and show it to healthcare professionals.
The treated person must not donate blood, organs, tissues or cells for transplantation.

Common or expected effects
- Uncontrollable jerky movements (dyskinesia), often emerging after treatment and usually reducing over subsequent months

- Feeding difficulties, irritability or increased saliva
- Procedure- or anaesthesia-related effects such as anaemia, cerebrospinal-fluid leakage, low blood pressure, diarrhoea, fever or pneumonia
