Why should thyroid function be monitored during somatropin treatment?

Somatropin increases conversion of T4 to T3 outside the thyroid and may unmask incipient hypothyroidism, so thyroid function should be monitored in all patients and replacement therapy closely monitored in those with hypopituitarism.
