Why should lamotrigine not be restarted after lamotrigine-associated aseptic meningitis?

Lamotrigine should not be restarted in patients who discontinued it because of associated aseptic meningitis because, although most cases reversed after withdrawal, re-exposure caused recurrence in some cases, with rapid return of frequently more severe symptoms.
