Carbapenem antibiotics such as meropenem can reduce valproic acid blood levels by 60–100% within two days, sometimes with convulsions, so concomitant use should be avoided in patients stabilised on Epilim Chrono; if unavoidable, close monitoring of valproic acid blood levels is required.
