Mesalazine can rarely cause renal impairment, so renal function should be checked before and monitored during treatment. Occasional NSAID use may add renal risk and should be discussed. INR and lithium levels are not relevant unless the patient is taking those medicines. Peak flow and HbA1c do not monitor mesalazine safety.
