The Human Medicines Regulations allow emergency supply of many POMs at the request of a patient when the pharmacist is satisfied there is immediate need and other conditions are met. Records and labelling requirements apply. The pharmacist must use professional judgement and verify previous treatment where possible. The quantity should be appropriate and within legal limits.
