BASHH recommends test of cure for pharyngeal gonorrhoea, persistent symptoms, pregnancy, unknown susceptibility or non-ceftriaxone treatment. Symptom resolution does not reliably confirm microbiological cure at the pharyngeal site. Re-treatment without indication, cytology and pregnancy testing do not answer the cure question. The pearl is that gonorrhoea follow-up depends on site and resistance considerations.
