Thiazide diuretics can increase urate and precipitate or worsen gout. The patient still needs blood pressure management, but the choice of antihypertensive should be reviewed. The pharmacist should not advise stopping prescribed treatment independently. Aspirin at antiplatelet doses does not treat hyperuricaemia and can complicate gout management.
