Schedule 2, 3 and 4 controlled drug prescriptions are valid for 28 days from the appropriate date. Methylphenidate is a Schedule 2 CD, so a prescription presented after 35 days cannot be dispensed. Telephone approval cannot extend statutory validity. The patient should be referred back to the prescriber for a new prescription if treatment is still needed.
