GTN spray should be used sublingually while the patient rests, as it can cause hypotension and dizziness. If pain is not relieved according to the patient's action plan, urgent medical help is needed. The spray should be kept in its original container and the patient should be counselled about headache, flushing and expiry after opening where relevant.
