Symptomatic hypoglycaemia in a conscious patient is treated promptly with fast-acting carbohydrate, followed by rechecking and longer-acting carbohydrate if needed. Sulfonylureas such as gliclazide can cause recurrent hypoglycaemia. Exercise and additional gliclazide would worsen risk.
