Montelukast has been associated with neuropsychiatric reactions, including mood, sleep and behaviour changes. Families should be counselled to seek medical advice if such symptoms appear or worsen. It does not replace inhaled corticosteroid therapy unless the prescriber changes the plan. It is not an acute reliever and is not used through a spacer.
