Mesalazine can rarely cause renal impairment, including interstitial nephritis. Renal function should be checked before treatment and monitored during therapy according to local guidance. Patients should also be advised to report unexplained bruising, bleeding, sore throat or malaise. INR monitoring is not the standard safety requirement for mesalazine.
