Nanofilled resin composites are characterised by primary filler particles within the nanoscale, conventionally 1–100 nm; therefore, A is correct. These may occur as discrete nanoparticles or be incorporated into nanoclusters. Importantly, an assembled nanocluster can be larger than 100 nm, but it is formed from nanoscale primary particles. Their small size contributes to a smooth surface, good polishability and polish retention while allowing relatively high filler loading. Particles measured in hundreds of nanometres or micrometres, as in B–E, fall into submicron or traditional microfilled, hybrid or macrofilled size categories rather than the defining primary-particle range of a nanofilled composite.
