A is correct. Winter classification describes the inclination of the impacted third molar relative to the long axis of the adjacent second molar. In a mesioangular impaction, the crown of the third molar is inclined mesially, towards the distal surface of the second molar. A distoangular impaction has the opposite inclination, with the crown directed distally. Horizontal and vertical describe the corresponding orientation of the tooth's long axis, while an inverted impaction has the crown directed inferiorly. Angulation alone should not be used to predict extraction difficulty, which also depends on depth, available ramus space, root morphology and proximity to the inferior alveolar canal.
