A dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst that surrounds the crown of an unerupted tooth, classically attaching near the cementoenamel junction. This characteristic relationship makes A the single best answer. A radicular cyst develops at the apex of a non-vital tooth, while a residual cyst is a radicular cyst that remains after the associated tooth has been extracted. A lateral periodontal cyst occurs beside the root of a usually vital erupted tooth.
