Its cells subsequently differentiate into ameloblasts. The dental papilla gives rise to odontoblasts and dental pulp, rather than independently outlining the crown. The outer enamel epithelium forms the external boundary of the enamel organ, while the stellate reticulum provides structural and metabolic support. The dental follicle produces the periodontal supporting tissues, including cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. Experimental alteration of bell-stage inner enamel epithelial proliferation and folding results in abnormal cusp morphology.
