Prescribing considerations
- Specialist initiation is required for adults with severe eosinophilic asthma; reslizumab is not a rescue treatment.
- Treat pre-existing helminth infection before initiation. Consider interruption if infection develops and does not respond to treatment.
- UK vial presentations are being withdrawn in stages during 2026; review local supply and continuity arrangements.
Contraindications and cautions
- Hypersensitivity to reslizumab or any formulation excipient.
Monitoring
- Observe during administration and for an appropriate period afterwards for anaphylaxis or other systemic reactions.

Clinical pharmacology
Humanised IgG4 kappa monoclonal antibody against soluble interleukin-5. It reduces eosinophil survival and activity, has minimal extravascular distribution and is degraded by proteolysis to peptides and amino acids.
Formulation and product differences
- Supplied as a single-use concentrate requiring dilution with sodium chloride solution before intravenous infusion.
- It must not be administered orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, undiluted or as an intravenous bolus.
- UK vial presentations have staged discontinuation dates during 2026.
