Prescribing considerations
- Follow current national eligibility recommendations; routine childhood provision changed to MMRV in January 2026.
- Review pregnancy status, immune function, immunosuppressive therapy, recent blood products, allergy history and acute febrile illness.
- Use caution with previous febrile convulsions, central nervous system disorders, thrombocytopenia or coagulation disorders.
- Record the product name and batch number for traceability.
Contraindications and cautions

Monitoring
- Ensure treatment and supervision for anaphylaxis are immediately available.
- Prevent injury from injection-related syncope, particularly in adolescents.
- Monitor selected immunocompromised recipients for clinical infection because immune response may be inadequate.
- Advise prompt assessment of high fever with convulsion, abnormal bleeding or neurological symptoms.
Clinical pharmacology
Live attenuated Schwarz measles, RIT 4385 mumps and Wistar RA 27/3 rubella strains induce virus-specific humoral and cellular immune responses. Pharmacokinetic assessment is not applicable to vaccines.
Formulation and product differences
- Priorix is supplied as a powder with solvent in a pre-filled syringe and requires reconstitution before administration.
- Priorix does not list porcine gelatine among its excipients; it contains trace neomycin and includes sorbitol, phenylalanine and para-aminobenzoic acid.
- The reconstituted solution may range from clear peach to fuchsia pink without indicating loss of potency.

Tell the vaccinator about all medicines, vaccines and recent blood products because some can affect safety, test interpretation or immune response.
Immunosuppressants, including high-dose systemic corticosteroids
May make a live vaccine unsafe or reduce its effectiveness; vaccination may need to be deferred or assessed by a specialist.
Immunoglobulins and blood transfusions
Transferred antibodies can reduce the immune response, so vaccination timing must be checked by the clinical team.
Other live attenuated vaccines
