How does indoramin hydrochloride work?
Indoramin blocks postsynaptic alpha-1 receptors. This relaxes smooth muscle in the enlarged prostate and urinary outlet, improving urine flow. Relaxation of blood vessels can also lower blood pressure.

Common or expected effects
- Drowsiness or sedation, particularly after starting treatment
- Dry mouth
- Blocked nose
- Dizziness or headache
- Tiredness
- Weight gain
- Low blood pressure on standing, sometimes with fainting
- Failure of ejaculation
Get urgent medical advice
- Fainting or marked symptoms of low blood pressure require prompt assessment.
- Seek urgent help for a seizure or profound sedation, particularly after excess tablets.
- Tell the prescriber promptly if Parkinson's symptoms worsen, depression develops, or a suspected hypersensitivity reaction such as rash or itching occurs.
indoramin hydrochloride in pregnancy
Indoramin should not normally be prescribed during pregnancy unless the clinician considers it essential. Discuss treatment with the prescriber if pregnant, planning pregnancy or becoming pregnant while taking it.
indoramin hydrochloride while breastfeeding
It is unknown whether indoramin passes into human milk. Use during breastfeeding requires individual review and should occur only when a clinician considers it clinically justified.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors
Concurrent treatment is contraindicated.
Antihypertensives and other blood-pressure-lowering medicines
The combination may cause an excessive fall in blood pressure or postural dizziness.
Antidepressants, anxiolytics and hypnotics
Hypotensive or sedative effects may be increased.
