Prescribing considerations

• Initiate under a clinician experienced in hereditary angioedema.
• Assess suitability and provide structured training before home treatment; review technique periodically.
• Record the product name and batch number for every administration.
• For regular or repeated use, consider hepatitis A and B vaccination because the product is plasma-derived.
• Manufacturing reduces infectious risk, but transmission of known or emerging pathogens cannot be completely excluded.

Contraindications and cautions

• Hypersensitivity to human C1-esterase inhibitor or any excipient.

Monitoring

• Clinical response and ongoing need for routine prophylaxis.
• Early hypersensitivity or anaphylaxis during and after administration.
• Thrombotic risk, especially with known risk factors or an indwelling catheter.
• Home reconstitution, injection technique and treatment records.

Clinical pharmacology

A human plasma-derived serpin that inhibits C1r, C1s, kallikrein and factor XIIa, temporarily restoring regulation of complement and contact-system activation. It is degraded as a protein rather than metabolised through cytochrome P450 pathways.

Formulation and product differences

• The selected product is a single-use powder supplied with water for injections and requires reconstitution before intravenous use.
• Use a silicone-free syringe and do not mix with other medicinal products.
• Store below 25°C, protect from light and do not freeze.
• The formulation contains sodium.
