Prescribing considerations

Gadopentetate dimeglumine is an ionic, linear gadolinium chelate that shortens proton relaxation times and principally enhances signal on T1-weighted imaging. Material absorbed from the joint enters extracellular fluid and is eliminated mainly through the kidneys.
Formulation and product differences
- The selected product is a clear aqueous, low-concentration solution supplied in a pre-filled syringe for direct joint injection.
- It contains meglumine, pentetic acid, sodium chloride and water for injections.
- Do not confuse it with intravenous Magnevist presentations, whose EU authorisations were suspended; the intra-articular formulation remained subject to updated product information.
