How does ezetimibe work?
Ezetimibe blocks the NPC1L1 sterol transporter in the small intestine. This reduces absorption of cholesterol and plant sterols, so less cholesterol reaches the liver. Its action complements statins, which reduce cholesterol production in the liver.
