Clinical pharmacology

Eucalyptus oil is a volatile essential oil whose vapour provides perceived airway-opening effects. It also acts topically as a rubefacient. Experimental evidence links its principal constituent, 1,8-cineole, with TRPM8 activation and modulation of inflammatory signalling, but this should not be extrapolated to unlicensed treatment of inflammatory airway disease.
