Prescribing considerations

• Confirm active infestation by finding live lice; nits alone do not confirm current infestation.
• Ensure complete coverage of dry hair and scalp and counsel on strict ignition precautions.
• Children below the product’s licensed age threshold require medical supervision.
• Check close contacts and treat only those with live lice.

Contraindications and cautions

• Hypersensitivity to dimeticone or any product ingredient.

Monitoring

• Assess for persistent live lice rather than relying on residual nits or itching alone.
• Stop and wash off the product if local or systemic hypersensitivity develops.
• Review application technique and possible reinfestation if treatment appears unsuccessful.

Clinical pharmacology

Topical dimeticone acts physically by coating lice and disrupting water regulation. There is little or no absorption through the skin.

Formulation and product differences

• The selected product is a clear, colourless cutaneous solution containing cyclomethicone as an excipient.
• Dropper and trigger-spray presentations may exist; not all pack types are necessarily marketed.
• The solution is combustible on treated hair and may create a slip hazard if spilled.
