How can amlodipine + valsartan affect lithium levels when taken together?

Exforge (amlodipine + valsartan), through valsartan, may reversibly increase serum lithium levels and cause toxicity; concomitant use is not recommended, careful lithium-level monitoring is advised if used together, and adding a diuretic may further increase toxicity risk.
