Rifabutin is indicated to prevent Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infections in patients with HIV disease and CD4 counts below 75 cells/mcl, and to treat nontuberculous mycobacterial infections, such as MAC and M. xenopi, and pulmonary tuberculosis.
