Dosulepin hydrochloride treats symptoms of depressive illness, especially when an anti-anxiety effect is needed, but because of overdose toxicity is reserved for patients intolerant of or unresponsive to alternatives, and treatment initiation in patients who have not previously received it is restricted to specialist care prescribers.
