Key imaging modalities recommended for the initial assessment of pancreatic cysts in primary care are pancreatic protocol CT scan and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRI/MRCP). These should be offered to people with pancreatic cysts to characterize the cysts and guide further management. If additional information is needed after one of these tests, the other imaging modality should be offered. Following CT and MRI/MRCP, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) may be considered if more information on the likelihood of malignancy is required or if surgical decision-making is unclear.
