If you suspect a transfusion reaction in your patient, the immediate steps involve:

  • Monitoring the patient's condition and vital signs: This should be done before, during, and after blood transfusions to detect acute reactions that may require immediate investigation and treatment .
  • Ensuring a suitable environment with trained staff: Patients who are having or have had a blood transfusion should be observed in an environment where staff are able to monitor and manage acute reactions .
