For patients in primary care with suspected normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), the current guidelines primarily focus on referral for further assessment rather than specific primary care management.

Adults who present with difficulty initiating and coordinating walking, known as gait apraxia, should be referred to neurology or an elderly care clinic to exclude normal pressure hydrocephalus .
