Arrange for the baby to have visual inspection for jaundice in bright, natural light, examining sclerae and gums, and pressing lightly on the skin to check for jaundice, especially in darker skin tones .

Ensure that the baby is monitored for any signs of worsening jaundice or neurological symptoms, and advise parents to seek urgent medical review if such signs occur .

Reassure parents that neonatal jaundice is common and usually transient and harmless, and that breastfeeding can usually continue .

Arrange for follow-up bilirubin measurement if transcutaneous bilirubinometry is available, or refer for serum bilirubin testing if not available, especially if the jaundice persists or is mild but ongoing .

Advise parents to monitor the baby's feeding, urine, and stool patterns, and to seek medical advice if pale stools, dark urine, or feeding problems develop .
