Consider referring a patient with Henoch-Schönlein Purpura (HSP) to a specialist if HSP is suspected based on clinical features, to rule out other serious causes and assess risk of complications. This is particularly important in children presenting with symptoms such as a limp or joint involvement, or if there is diagnostic uncertainty.

Urgent referral may be warranted for immediate specialist assessment if there are signs of significant joint involvement, persistent or severe symptoms, or complications such as renal involvement.

Referral should be considered to paediatric rheumatology or other relevant specialists depending on local pathways and the clinical presentation.

This approach is based on local guidelines and expert opinion emphasizing the need to rule out other serious causes and manage potential complications of HSP promptly.
