What are the current first-line treatment options for adults with chronic plaque psoriasis in primary care?

Offer people with psoriasis topical treatment as first-line treatment .

Options include an emollient to reduce scale and help relieve itch, with advice on sources of information such as the Psoriasis Association leaflet on Moisturisers or the Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Alliance leaflet on Emollients and Psoriasis .

In addition, a potent topical corticosteroid plus a topical vitamin D preparation (both applied once a day, but at different times of day) is recommended as initial active topical treatment .

Review the person within four weeks after treatment has started to assess response, adherence, and any adverse effects, and consider continuing or adjusting treatment accordingly .
