Tranexamic acid reduces mortality in traumatic haemorrhage when given early, ideally within one hour and certainly within three hours of injury, as a 1 g loading dose over ten minutes. A rapid bolus injection can cause hypotension. Treatment should not await laboratory results when there is active haemorrhage.
