A seizure requiring emergency benzodiazepine or lasting beyond typical duration merits further assessment, especially for recurrence, aspiration, injury or precipitating illness. Repeated benzodiazepine in a post-ictal patient can cause respiratory depression. Oral fluids are unsafe while drowsy. The pearl is that the end of visible convulsion is not the end of risk.
