Reveal the answer and explanation

Correct answer: DEmil Kraepelin

Emil Kraepelin is correct. His influential nosology distinguished dementia praecox, broadly ancestral to the modern concept of schizophrenia, from manic-depressive insanity, which encompassed recurrent affective illnesses. The distinction relied substantially on longitudinal course and outcome rather than symptoms at a single assessment and became known as the Kraepelinian dichotomy. Sigmund Freud developed psychoanalytic theory rather than this descriptive classification. John Bowlby is associated with attachment theory, Aaron Beck with cognitive therapy, and Ivan Pavlov with classical conditioning. Although modern evidence challenges a strict separation between psychotic and affective disorders, the historical distinction asked about is unequivocally associated with Kraepelin.
