Localised impetigo (small area, few lesions) can be treated with topical mupirocin 2% ointment applied 3 times daily for 5 days. Oral antibiotics (flucloxacillin or cefalexin) are reserved for extensive or recurrent impetigo, or if topical treatment fails. Good wound hygiene is important.
