In suspected meningococcal sepsis, blood cultures should be obtained and IV antibiotics (ceftriaxone) administered as early as possible, ideally within 60 minutes of recognition. This should not delay fluid resuscitation, which can be given simultaneously via a second IV cannula or after the antibiotic push dose. Time to antibiotics is critical for survival.
