Single magnet ingestion in an asymptomatic child can usually be observed with serial X-rays to confirm passage. However, if there is ANY possibility of more than one magnet (or a magnet + metallic object), urgent removal is required as magnets can attract across bowel loops causing pressure necrosis, perforation, and fistula formation.
