Severe haemophilia A (<1% FVIII): acute bleeds are treated with factor VIII concentrate replacement. Target FVIII level for joint bleeds is 40-60%. Desmopressin is useful in mild haemophilia A only (it releases stored FVIII from endothelial cells). Regular prophylactic FVIII infusions prevent joint damage. Emicizumab is an alternative prophylactic agent.
