Neonatal seizures within 24 hours after perinatal hypoxia with restricted diffusion in the basal ganglia/thalami on MRI = moderate-severe HIE. Therapeutic hypothermia (33.5°C for 72 hours) is indicated for moderate-severe HIE in term neonates commenced within 6 hours of birth.
