Erythema nodosum presents with tender, erythematous, subcutaneous nodules on the anterior shins. It is a hypersensitivity reaction associated with infections (streptococcal, TB, EBV), inflammatory bowel disease, sarcoidosis, and medications. It is the most common panniculitis in children. Treatment addresses the underlying cause. The lesions resolve without scarring over 3–6 weeks.
