Type 1 ROP (any stage with plus disease in zone I or II, or stage 3 without plus disease in zone I) requires treatment within 72 hours. Current treatment options include laser photocoagulation to the avascular retina and/or intravitreal anti-VEGF agents (e.g. ranibizumab, bevacizumab). Anti-VEGF therapy is increasingly used, particularly for zone I disease.
