Correct answer: E — Socket sclerosis
Socket sclerosis is the radiographic appearance of increased bone density (radiopacity) within a healed extraction socket. It represents normal reactive bone formation during socket healing. The sclerotic bone may persist for months to years and should not be mistaken for pathology. It is most commonly seen in the mandibular molar region. In some cases, the sclerotic bone may prevent complete ridge remodelling, appearing as a dense area on subsequent radiographs. It is generally an incidental finding requiring no treatment.
