A Mylar (polyester/celluloid) strip is used as a matrix for Class V (cervical) restorations, particularly with glass ionomer cement and composite resin. The transparent Mylar strip allows light-curing through the matrix, conforms to the tooth contour, and produces a smooth surface. Unlike metal matrices, Mylar strips do not interfere with photopolymerisation.
